Separated at birth?
We're home and the boxster has found it's place in the garage. I
might add a few pictures from the pc later but for now I think I'll
get some sleep. Good night all!

Between Houston and SA
We hit houston during rush hour, but it wasn't as bad as i feared it
could be. The roads here are pretty open, as you can see from the
picture. If I were a less responsible person I would have taken the
car to 112 mph on one of these empty sections. And I would have
likely discovered that the car feels very solid at that speed. Or I
could have discovered that the car seems as though it wants to run at
that speed all day.

A Late Lunch
We just finished lunch near Lake Charles, Louisiana. We were both
getting really hungry. We probably won't make it home until 8pm or
so. My last two blog entries didn't seem to post and I think I figured
out what the problem is and fixed it. I'm site you all are dying to
know what you've missed, so here's the summary:
Baton rouge - a picture of a cool bridge and miles of causeway.
Next message - I reviewed the blog and noticed everyone's comments for
the first time. I'm glad to know that people are reading!

New Orleans
We got to n.o. around 10 am, so we were a little early for lunch. We
drove through the French quarter (I was hoping to throw some beads),
and the roads were terrible. It's like a huiricane came through here
or something. Bad joke...I know.
The neighborhood gets bad quickly if you get away from the main streets.

Louisiana
Alabama and Mississippi went by pretty quickly, but it looks like
we're going to be in louisiana for a while.

It's Tuesday
...and we're back on the road. We spent the night in a hotel about ten
miles west of Mobile Alabama. We had a hard time finding a reasonably
priced hotel that looked safe enough to park the boxster.
The picture here is of a tunnel in downtown mobile. I was a liitle
surprised to find a few modern skyscrapers in mobile. Unfortunately
we didn't get any pictures because we were busy looking for a place to
stay. We're hoping to arrive in San antonio around 6. Maybe we'll
grab lunch in new Orleans.

Boxster musings
I just spoke with my sister and parents and it seems that there are at
least two people following our progress! So I'll write a bit more
while it's Mey's turn to drive.
The boxster s is a great car. I feel a bit like the guy in the
waterburger commercial who gets "out whataburgered". Ride and
handling are great without being as stiff as the Honda, and the engine
is nice and torquey. We got only 23 mpg on the last tank despite
mostly highway driving. Still not bad, so it's a small price to pay
for such a fun motor.
Having two trunks is nice as we have two bags, a car cover and a spare
tire with plenty of room to spare. Interior room is a bit tighter for
those of us over six feet. My head is brushing the headliner and my
legs are leaning on the interior while driving. Somehow I don't seem
to mind...
The other thing I noticed is that this car gets more attention than I
was expecting. I wasn't expecting many people to look, as these have
been on the roads for more than a decade. I guess I underestimated the
general public's attraction of this European roadster. It probably is
accentuated by the fact that (with the exception of a brief stint in
tallahasse) we've mostly been in rural areas and truckstops.

No more poop!
Problem: bird poop on the fender
Solution: drive really fast through a rainstorm
Best single word to describe Florida: moist
Florida rain
Our lawn would look awesome if we got daily rain in texas. Good thing
we put the top up just in time.

She apologizes when she shifts
It's kind of funny that every time that Mey jerks the car when
shifting, she apologizes. I suspect that this was something left over
from driving someone else's car. After a bit more driving I noticed
that this engine is really quiet for a sports car. Unless you're wot
and in the upper end of the tach, you can barely hear this thing. I
wonder how Mey would react if I got her the sport exhaust for Christmas?

On the road - top down
We're still in Florida, about 30 minutes north of Gainsville. I think
the iphone will only let me attach one picture per post, so look to
the next entry for a picture of the happy driver.

Mey finally got one!!!
The transaction took a little longer than I thought, but Mey is now
the proud new owner of a 2001 Porsche Boxster S. It was a great deal,
but it's going to need new tires soon. It drives great and has that
great porsche sound. It is quieter than ben's car, but is nice and
torquey. It'll take me a while to get used to after driving the Honda.

We're at Disney World!
I have recently discovered that Mey takes Disney very seriously. We
stormed the magic kingdom after 4 hours of sleep to get there with
tickets in hand before the park opened. It was crazy. As I write
this we are on our third park (currently epcot),but we plan on
returning to the magic kingdom for the fireworks this evening. I'll
likely update more often tomorrow when we have some free time in the
car.

Connecting in Charlotte
We're in charlotte, in the heart of NASCAR country. Here's a picture
of Mey in an airport restaraunt called "Stock car cafe". We sat for 10
min without a waiter. It seems the cafe, much like Nascar, is slow.

My first blog!
If everything goes well on Saturday, Mey and I will be taking a road trip back from Florida on Monday. I'll be buying an iPhone before the trip and I hope to blog on the road. If the pre-purchase inspection doesn't come up with anything major, we'll be leaving San Antonio Saturday at 5pm. DisneyWorld is in the plans for Sunday, as this has been a lifelong dream of Mey's. It seems that all the rich kids in Peru would go to Disneyworld and would rub their mickey mouse ears in her envious face when they returned.
Here's a nice picture of the car that we are hoping to pick up on Monday.
It's a Lapis Blue 2001 Boxster S. 250 hp 3.2L flat-6 with only 25k miles on it. I'll never understand how someone can own a car and not put more than 3500 miles a year on it. But I shouldn't complain as it works out well for us!
